Frequently Asked Questions
Please email us with any questions!
Q: When will my plants arrive?
A: We ship your plants as soon as possible unless a specific week is requested. For orders placed in the “off season”, such as winter, your shipment will be scheduled according to your planting zone unless otherwise requested. 90% of our shipments of plant material is scheduled to ship on a Monday to avoid anything sitting in a truck or warehouse over a weekend. At times, excessive heat or cold may delay us shipping to assure you receive a quality product. During months of June-September, plants shipments only go out on Mondays with Tuesday as a “back-up” day.
Q: How do I request a catalog?
A: Effective in Spring of 2009, we discontinued having a printed catalog to reduce costs and to avoid raising prices to cover the rising costs of printing and postage. We found that 95% of orders received were from the Internet and catalogs were not used.
Q: What payment methods do you accept?
A: Currently, we accept Paypal, Amazon Pay, and all the following credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, and Discover. We also accept checks and money orders for mail orders. COD orders are not accepted.
Q: How do you ship live plants?
A: Over the years, we have developed systems to assure live, undamaged delivery of live plants with unique packaging systems through UPS and the Postal Service. We do not use styrofoam “peanuts” in our packing and use only biodegradable padding or recycled packing materials where required.
Q: Do you offer expedited shipping?
A: Yes. If you want your order expedited, choose the appropriate method in the shopping cart, such as 3-Day Select, 2nd Day Air, or Next Day Air. Please note that with 3 Day Select, they day it ships does not count as part of the three days. Expedited shipments will be scheduled around weekends and holidays so as not to sit somewhere over a weekend or Holiday.
Q: Can I order a “Sold Out” item?
A: It is possible, in some cases, with the shopping cart to order an item that is currently unavailable. This will appear as a “Back-Order”. However, because we are growers and not re-sellers, our nursery stock is sold on a seasonal basis and we cannot always back order plants, with exception of plug flats. Orders for sold out items that cannot be supplied in a reasonable time will be refunded. Seeds can be back-ordered and ship when available. We will contact you if seeds are back ordered. Plug flats are generally in production spring thru fall. If a variety cannot be produced in a reasonable time, we will contact you.
Q: Can I add, cancel, to or change my order?
A: Should you need to add to, change, or cancel an order, please email or call us at 309-756-1967, as soon as possible. Seeds usually go out within one to two days of an order placement, so if you need to add to, cancel, or change a seed order, it is best to call or email the same day you place that order to do so. For live plant orders, contact us immediately. Orders canceled after 7 days from the original order date are subject to a 20% charge. Custom grow-to-order items, if canceled after 7 days from original order date will also have a 20% charge. This also applies to items ordered as “back-ordered”.
To add to an order, you will need to give us your credit card information as we do not store the numbers for security reasons.
Q: What are “plugs”?
A: Plugs are small ‘starter’ plants, each in an individual cell. These are an economical way to purchase and ship a large number of plants for big projects, or commercial growing-on. Cells per flat count varies according to variety/type/size. Generally, our plug flats have a count per flat of 32, 50, 72, 84, 96, and 128. A flat measures 11″ x 22″. The higher the number of cells per flat, the smaller the plants. Plug flats are intended for advanced gardeners, landscapers, and commercial growers.
