Grow Apple Mint in full sun to light shade. Feed them heavily in late summer to guarantee healthy growth the following spring. Apple Mint will survive in dry soil, but will do much better in moist, fertile ground. Cut back or mow down the Mint patch 2 or 3 times a year to encourage fresh growth. Cut the stems even with the ground and throw out the long, woody stems. Strip off and dry whole leaves for potpourris. Save the top 2 to 3 sets of leaves for fresh use and garnishes. Apple Mint’s fragrance may vary in strength; the mild apple flavor doesn’t sustain well in dried leaves.

Mint, Chocolate
Tastes like a Peppermint Patty. Distinct hint of chocolate flavor and aroma. If you are a coffee lover, place a sprig in the bottom of your mug and pour hot coffee over it and let steep for a few minutes. Great stuff! Or try using it finely chopped and added to chocolate sauces, frostings, or ice creams for a refreshing minty flavor.

Prunella Grandiflora Plug Flat
Short spikes of hooded white flowers are produced above a thick carpet of deep green foliage. Begins blooming in June and continues all the way through September. This makes an excellent ground cover or border plant. The foliage reaches about 4 inches tall, but the flowers will bloom upward another 6 – 8 inches. Space Prunella 10 – 12 inches apart.
A common name for Prunella is Self Heal. As the name indicates, Self Heal has medicinal properties.
Best in full sun, but will tolerate partial shade. Requires a well drained soil. Not for wet or soggy areas.

Redbud, American Eastern
American Redbud or Eastern Redbud and sometimes referred to as the Judas tree as it dates back to biblical times.
Very handsome, small tree with gracefully ascending branches, reaches 20 to 30 feet. Perfect reddish purple flowers open to a rosy-pink, March-April. Emerging heart-shaped reddish purple leaves turn green, then yellow-green in fall. Origin: New Jersey to Florida, west to Missouri and Texas and northern Mexico. Zones 4-10
Great as a single specimen, in a group, in a shrub border, and especially nice in woodland and naturalized type landscapes.
2 Gallon size trees are 3 yr. old . Fast growing up until about 12′, then growth slows somewhat. Excellent for use under canopy of large trees and should have afternoon shade in southern zones.

Rugosa Rose, Seed
Ah, yes……….. the perfection of a rose in mid-summer. The sweet fragrance emitted from perfectly formed petals is why this is the flower of choice for many.
But, to obtain the perfect rose one needs to have the perfect soil, a perfect watering regimen, and a lot of time. For those of you who don’t fall into this category, consider the species Rosa rugosa. It is not as neat and upright the hybrid teas, and the flower petals tend to go helter-skelter. It sometimes has a kind of shaggy, unkempt look about it. That’s what gives this plant its character. Named for the wrinkled (rugose) surface of its glossy green leaves, this rose is a charmer that can soften and naturalize any area.
